A blogger has shared a hidden seating area at London’s busy Stansted Airport that she came across “by accident”

A blogger travelling from one of the UK’s busiest airports has revealed a hidden quiet seating area that she came across “by accident”. Cora Harrison, 31, said she came across the area at London’s Stansted Airport - which is the country’s fourth busiest airport with over 23 million passengers passing through in 2022 according to Conde Nast traveller.

Ms Harrison said the space at the airport is just a stone’s throw away from the main area but it is much quieter. She filmed a video of the space on 25 September before catching a flight to Sicily, Italy.

The video shows the airport packed full of passengers, and the hidden area which has dozens of seats available. Spare seats in airports have become a scarce commodity as the number of passengers rise. In the video, Ms Harrison directs viewers to the location of the hidden seating area which she says is “always pretty much empty while people upstairs are sat down on the floor”.

Ms Harrison, a travel blogger from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said Stansted Airport is a “notoriously hard place to find a seat within departures” but she came across this hidden seating area “by accident” when she was travelling. She runs a travel blog with her wife Helen Harrison, 31, and has been to 32 countries so far - and more recently has brought their 21-month-old son with them. She added that she has “been three times now” to the seating area and “always found it to be super quiet”.

London Stansted handled 2% more passengers in August compared to the same month in 2019, with a total of 2.91 million. Its busiest day was 18 August 2023, with 100,561 passengers passing through – a rate of 70 per minute. The busiest routes were Dublin, Istanbul and Palma de Mallorca.
