Line of Duty star Martin Compston was spotted mingling with Scotland fans before the start of Euro 2024.

The actor, 40, was born and raised in Greenock and is a proud Scotsman. He attended a rally for Scottish Independence in Glasgow earlier this year.

He was spotted in the crowd in Munich and was filmed being carried on someone’s shoulders. Compston can be seen singing and joining in with the chants.

Tens of thousands of members of the Tartan Army have made the trip to Germany to cheer on their team, and at home thousands more are expected to pack out venues set up in cities to screen the games. It is Scotland’s first tournament on foreign soil since the 1998 World Cup in France.

SNP leader and First Minister John Swinney was another of the famous faces who travelled to Bavaria. Dressed in a Scotland jersey and kilt, the First Minister was spotted on the streets of Munich, speaking to – and in one case being caught in an embrace with – members of the Tartan Army.

“The atmosphere is just phenomenal,” the First Minister told journalists. “The journey here was just great, mixing with all the Scotland fans that were coming. The Tartan Army has been on great form – you can hear them behind me.”

The result was not the one the Scottish fans were hoping for as hosts Germany ran away with the match, winning 5-1 and denting Scotland’s hopes of advancing from the group. However manager Steve Clarke urged fans to “keep the faith”.
