Hot flushes can make getting comfortable at night difficult. Simba's new HeatRelease technology is designed to help sleepers stay cooler while they sleep.

For many women going through menopause, getting a good night's sleep can become much harder than it used to be. Hot flushes and night sweats can leave you throwing off the duvet, opening windows and desperately searching for the cool side of the pillow, only to wake up hot again later.

While changing bedding, wearing lighter pyjamas and keeping the bedroom cool can all help make a difference, your mattress is something you can't simply take off when the temperature rises. That's where new cooling mattress technology from Simba could be worth a closer look.

The sleep brand has launched HeatRelease, a cooling innovation exclusive to Simba in the UK that's designed to draw excess body heat away from the sleeper.

For women experiencing the warmth and discomfort associated with hot flushes, the idea of having cooling technology built directly into the mattress could be appealing.

HeatRelease combines precision graphite cooling strips with graphite-infused Simbatex foam and Simba's breathable spring architecture.

The technology is designed to draw excess heat away from the sleeper within 20 minutes. Simba says it can help keep sleepers up to 4.4C cooler and maintain an ideal sleep temperature for up to eight hours.

Of course, a mattress can't stop hot flushes from happening, and everyone's experience of menopause is different. But if overheating is making it harder to get comfortable or stay asleep, reducing the amount of heat retained around your body with this Simba mattress could be one way of making the sleep environment more comfortable.

The Hybrid Ultra combines Simba's patented Aerocoil microsprings with two layers of graphite-infused Simbatex foam, a PureLift™ comfort layer, Stratos cool-touch cover and FusionCool layer, as well as a SupportCore spring system.

Prices start at £1,749 for a Single, with the range going up to £2,999 for a Super King.

The Hybrid Luxe offers a more plush feel and combines Aerocoil microsprings, graphite-infused Simbatex foam, a breathable bamboo-infused wool layer and Steel SupportCore springs. HeatRelease is available as an optional upgrade, with prices with the upgrade starting from £1,998 for a Double.

There's also the Hybrid Pro, which combines Aerocoil spring technology with graphite-infused Simbatex foam and offers HeatRelease as an upgrade. Prices with the cooling upgrade start from £1,498 for a Double.

Anyone who has experienced a hot flush in the middle of the night will know that the problem isn't necessarily simply feeling warm. Suddenly becoming overheated can mean waking up, removing layers, changing position and trying to cool down before getting back to sleep.

And if that happens repeatedly, the disruption can make an already frustrating night feel even longer.

That's why cooling is becoming an increasingly interesting feature in mattresses and other sleep products. Rather than relying entirely on the temperature of the bedroom, HeatRelease is designed to work within the mattress itself.

Simba CEO Steve Reid says cooling has become one of the biggest priorities in sleep innovation, with HeatRelease combining thermal engineering with the brand's existing sleep technology.

We know that a mattress is a significant purchase though, so Simba's 200-night trial could be reassuring for anyone considering a change.

For menopausal women who are finding that hot flushes or night-time overheating are interfering with their comfort, a mattress designed with temperature management in mind could be an interesting addition to other strategies for creating a cooler sleeping environment.

HeatRelease won't prevent hot flushes, but for those nights when staying cool feels like a constant battle, having a mattress designed to help draw away excess heat could make the bed a more comfortable place to be.
