The Met Office has issued a new thunderstorm warning for parts of England.

The yellow weather warning has been put in place for part of the Midlands and into the north of England. This includes Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Manchester and Lancaster.

The warning is in place from 11am on Tuesday (June 18) until 9pm the same day. According to the Met Office, heavy showers and thunder may hit the region, leading to some travel disruption.

The Met Office update said: “There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. Possibly some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.”

The weather service added that there may be some short term loss of power and other services, as well as possible flooding and delays to train services.

It comes as the UK looks set to sizzle towards the end of the month. Experts are predicting that temperatures could reach 29ºC, with the possible arrival of a north African heatwave sweeping across the country.
