Trooping the Colour 2023: Who is Andrew Gn, the designer that the Princess of Wales chose to wear?
People in this article
I am not often surprised when it comes to the fashion choices that the Princess of Wales makes. More often than not, she relies on a handful of her favourite high end labels such as Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Catherine Walker. However, for Trooping the Colour 2023, she chose a bespoke vibrant green dress by Andrew Gn.
Although Andrew Gn is not a household name, the Paris-based Singaporean designer is very well respected and has been working in the business for 28 years. Women’s Wear Daily wrote recently that “the designer is the subject of his first major retrospective ‘Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World,’ on show at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) in Singapore until Sept. 17.”

The Princess of Wales recently attended the wedding of Prince Hussein of Jordan (the son of Queen Rania of Jordan) to Rajwa Al Saif.
Andrew Gn studied at Central Saint Martins School in London and Domus Academy in Milan. After his studies he worked as an assistant to M. Emmanuel Ungaro before starting his own fashion house. According to his website “Since his early childhood Andrew Gn was immersed in the world of Art and Antiques. He is a collector at heart. This passion translates into many cultural and historical inspirations for his fashion designs.”
As well as designing outfits for the Princess of Wales, Queen Rania of Jordan and Lady Gaga, Lily Collins wore one of his dresses for her Netflix show, ‘Emily in Paris.’ Actress Sarah Paulson also wore custom Andrew Gn to the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar party, hosted by Radhika Jones.
