Kate Middleton's favourite fashion brand The Vampire’s Wife announced it will be closing its doors.

The designer fashion brand The Vampire’s Wife founded by Susie Cave has stopped trading.  It had many celebrity fans and was seen on  the likes of Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. but don’t worry, you can still buy their iconic garments.

The Vampire’s Wife was founded by Nick Cave’s wife Susie in 2014, named after a book project the musician had abandoned. It soon established itself as an edgy brand known for stunning glittery dresses and it was not long before they were worn by A-listers.

The brand was even a favourite of the Royals with Princess Beatrice wearing a deep emerald green dress to Ellie Goulding’s wedding in 2019, and the Princess of Wales, wearing the signature metallic gowns a number of times, including to Prince William’s 40th birthday in 2022.

But this week  founder and former model Susie Cave announced the brand would no longer be trading via her Instagram account. She wrote: “After ten years as The Creative Director of The Vampire’s Wife, it is time for me to say goodbye. I say this with great sadness and want to express my undying gratitude to you all for your support.”

“I wish to thank my extended family at The Vampire’s Wife who helped me create such beautiful things. I cannot describe how much you have all meant to me.”

A statement from the brand read that it has made the decision to cease trading following an “upheaval in the wholesale market.” But they have not released specific details.

Over a year ago the company disclosed it was facing liquidation over an unpaid tax bill and they had been given a ‘winding up petition’ to allow the courts to close the company because of its outstanding debts.

These debts are understood to have accumulated during the pandemic when people were far less likely to be splashing their cash on occasion wear dresses with luxury price tags.

But do not fret if you are a fan of the iconic fashion brand because you still have the opportunity to get your hands on some fantastic pieces.

There will be a ‘Goodbye sale’ held over the May bank holiday weekend at The Music Room in Mayfair to give shoppers a chance to buy archived pieces, previous stock and current clothes from the brand.

  • Friday 24 May it will be held from 2pm to 7pm
  • Saturday 25 May from 10am to 6pm
  • Sunday 26 May 10am to 6pm

If you are not in London over the bank holiday, you can still shop the brand online and in stores that carry luxury fashion brands such as Harrods, Liberty of London and Selfridges.

Here are a few of my favourite dresses from The Vampire’s Wife that are still being sold online at Selfridges:

If you are inspired by Kate Middleton’s look, you can buy the Falconetti metallic thread silk blend midi dress in Emerald £1,595. The iconic gown is also carried by Selfridges in red or silver for the same price, but stocks are limited so you may have to be quick.

If you prefer wearing a floral dress for the Spring and Summer season, the Villanelle floral-print cotton midi dress £750 in a gorgeous cobalt colour is still available.

On the other hand if your style is a little edgier, you could opt to wear the black version of the Villanelle floral-print cotton midi dress  £750.
