BBC show Bad Education set to be axed after star Layton Williams suggested series won’t be returning

According to TV Zone, the reboot of BBC Three’s  Bad Education, which stars Strictly Come Dancing’s Layton Williams, is set to be axed. Layton Williams revealed to Digital Spy that “I don't know how much I can say on this, but I will say it’s been a bad time.” He also revealed that “Sometimes, all good things must come to an end. We usually film in the summer. I’m a little bit busy, so you can probably connect the dots.”

In 2023 it was revealed that filming had begun for season five of Bad Education, starring Layton Williams as the school’s drama teacher, Stephen Carmichael, Gavin and Stacey’s Matthew Horne and Charlie Wernham as PE teacher Mitchell Harper. When BBC Three was relaunched in 2022, the series attracted 1.1 million viewers in season four and was one of their most successful programmes. 

Layton Williams said at the time that “I’m buzzing that everyone embraced the new Bad Education! Thanks to yous, we’re back and badder than ever, creating more chaos with a super-talented bunch. More life, more laughs, more looks!”

Freddy Syborn, the co-creator of Bad Education also said at the time that “Last year, Jack & I loved putting together our new crew of characters and collaborators. We couldn’t be happier to be back-series five is going to be more joyful than ever.”

In May 2024, it was announced that Layton Williams will be starring as EmCeein the West End production of Cabaret at The Kit Kat Club in London. When he shared the announcement on his Instagram, stars such as Zoe Ball and Angela Scanlon shared their congratulations.

Zoe Ball wrote “Congrats Layton,” followed by a red hearts and lips emoji, whilst Angela Scanlon wrote: “EPIC.” Layton Williams then responded by writing: “Thank you all so much for the love. So overwhelmed by the positive response. What an honour to play this iconic role. Today marks end of week 2 rehearsals. Cannot wait to get on that stage.”
