Customers will be able to return the products to the stores they bought them for for a full refund.

A health product company is recalling one flavour of its plant-based nutritional shakes, after undisclosed milk products were discovered.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has this week issued a recall notice for Ensure NutriVigor plant-based nutritional shakes - specifically the almond flavour. The authority says this was because “it contains milk which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents”.

The discovery affects both the 400 and 850 gram containers, with batch codes 1195476; 1210475; 1195461 and 1210476. The FSA says it has advised Abbott, which owns the Ensure brand, to contact dairy allergy support organisations who can tell their members about it, on top of the company’s own voluntary recall.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, which will be visible is supermarkets and pharmacies where it is sold. These notices will explain to customers why the product is being recalled, and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

The FSA advised any customers who have already bought the product and had an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk products not to drink it. “Instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund.” For more information, they could contact the Abbott’s customer relations hotline on 0333 600 1795.

No other Ensure NutriVigor products or Abbott nutrition products sold in the UK are currently though to be impacted, the food watchdog added.
