A 32-year-old tourist died during a dream holiday to Edinburgh after his leg suddenly ballooned and turned black

A tourist tragically died during his dream holiday in the UK after his leg suddenly ballooned and turned black. Mauro Carminati, 32, from Stezzano in Bergamo, Italy, was visiting Edinburgh when he became alarmed after noticing his leg's drastic change in appearance. 

He sought help at an NHS hospital and doctors diagnosed him with an infection that spread to his lungs, resulting in pneumonia. His family including his mum Cinzia, dad Fabrizio, and aunt Marina rushed to Scotland hoping to see him.

He is understood to have died on May 3. According to the Daily Record, his family said that news of his death was an incredible shock, as he was one of the healthiest people around and was rarely ill.

They added that Mauro, a young Lamborghini engineer, was in perfect health when he left and would not have gone on holiday if there had been any sign of illness. The family is demanding to know whether the therapy initially administered to him by the doctors may have negatively influenced the treatment.

A spokesman for the Italian consulate said that his body could be flown back home after 7 May and the date for the funeral set. Mauro graduated with top marks from the Natta Scientific and Technological High School in Bergamo, and he obtained a degree with honours in Mathematical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 2013. 

He then went on to get a Master's degree at the University of Munich and after that a job working for the German carmaker Audi before in 2020 moving to Bologna to work for Lamborghini. Mauro has a keen interest in trekking, photography and travel.
