A teenage linesman has been attacked during a football game in Wales.

A police investigation has begun into an alleged assault on a teenage linesman in a football match between Amlwch Town and Penrhyn FC.

One of the Penrhyn players was acting as a voluntary linesman for the game. 15 minutes into the game, a member of Amlwch’s staff appeared to strike him, knocking him to the ground.

The Penrhyn squad rushed to his aid, as did their manager, Riccardo Pellegrino. Order was soon restored by Pellegrino, who successfully managed to calm his players down. The man who allegedly threw the punch was also successfully pacified by a member of Penrhyn’s staff.

Penrhyn went on to win the game by a wide score line of 8-0. Amlwch were due to take on Trearddur Bay on Wednesday, May 1, but they have postponed the fixture due to the ongoing police investigation into the incident that took place at their previous outing.

Following the game, Penrhyn FC issued a statement, which reads: “A fantastic result and performance from the lads today. Unfortunately, the game was marred by an incident which occurred approximately 15 minutes into the game when a Penrhyn player, acting as a voluntary linesman, was assaulted. The Club will not be making any further comments but will support the player as the matter has been reported to the police.”

The NWCFA also issued a statement after the incident, in which they wrote: “The North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) are aware of a video circulating on social media in relation to an incident at Amlwch Town FC. This incident is currently being investigated by the police, which the NWCFA has requested details.
