TSB said its customers were now doing most of their banking digitally

Martin LewisMoney Saving Expert website has warned TSB customers to seek other banking options after the bank announced the closure of 36 branches.

The affected roles include those in the fraud operations department, central operations and branch staff. Branch closures will commence in September and extend until May of next year.

TSB said it had decided to close the local branches because not enough customers were using them. About 96% of all the bank’s transactions take place outside of a branch, with the number of in-store transactions falling by 43% over the past four years.

A spokesman for TSB said: “The decision to close a branch is never taken lightly, but our customers are now doing most of their banking digitally and we need to move to a better balance of digital and face-to-face services.”

TSB will have 175 branches across the UK after the latest round of closures. It has already closed 10 branches over the past year.

What has Money Saving Expert said?

Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert said: "See if there's a TSB 'pop-up' near you. There are currently 47 of these across England, Scotland and Wales.

These pop-ups allow people to visit for face-to-face support, including making payments, getting product information and help with digital banking, and you can also “talk to a TSB staff member about general product enquiries, managing your existing payments, help with internet and mobile banking and more."

Money Saving Expert added: "If you need branch access and don't have alternative services nearby, consider switching."
