Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, a new three-part documentary about Kanye West, is coming to Netflix on Wednesday 16 February 2022.

What is it about?

Jeen-Yuhs is a documentary series about Kanye West. The official description for the series says it will offer “an intimate portrait of West as he builds his way from singer to businessman and becomes a global brand”.

Divided into three acts, the series is built around unseen archival footage from Kanye’s major life events.

In particular, the series is set to focus on Kanye’s career in music and fashion, the death of his mother Donda West in 2007, and his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign.

Who is in the cast?

As a documentary, Jeen-Yuhs doesn’t have a cast in the most traditional sense. It does however feature interviews with Kanye and fellow musician and occasional collaborator Jay-Z.

It was recently reported that West had asked rapper Drake to narrate the documentary, though that doesn’t actually seem to be happening.

The documentary was made by directing partners Coodie and Chike. They’re best known for a previous documentary Benji, made in 2012, about the tragic death of a high school basketball player.

They’ve also previously directed the Kanye West music video Through the Wire, which was West’s debut track.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, there is. You can take a look at it – and some of the archival footage of Kanye West’s life that it boasts – right here.

When and how can I watch it?

The first part of Jeen-Yuhs, titled Vision, will be available to stream on Netflix on Wednesday 16 February 2022.

Subsequent episodes will be available weekly on Wednesdays.

How do you pronounce Jeen-Yuhs?

It’s meant to be like “Genius”.

Why should I watch it?

It offers unparalled – and unprecedented – access to the life of one of the most famous, and most complicated, musicians currently working.
